Art Department: Our Aims
At Alt Bridge we aspire to provide a high-quality art and design education which engages, inspires and challenges pupils; equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design. As pupils progress, they are supported to think critically and develop their understanding of art and design. This is in line with the National Curriculum aims for the subject.
Art and Design at Alt Bridge aims to enable pupils to:
• Produce creative work, exploring their ideas and recording their experiences
• Become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques
• Evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art, craft and design
• Know about great artists, craft makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms.
All pupils in years 7, 8 follow the KS3 national curriculum in Art and Design giving them the same opportunities as their mainstream counterparts. All lessons are differentiated to the needs of each pupil. Dedicated, passionate and supportive staff help to drive a love for learning in Art and Design.
Pupils have the opportunity to study towards an Arts Award accredited by Trinity College London. Pupils can progress their interests in their chosen aspect of visual arts. This can range from developing their use of ICT in Art to planning and reviewing their own Arts Challenge. Pupils are supported to select a strong starting point and guided to realise their intentions moving forward in their research. Previous successful pupils have explored their leadership skills by planning and delivering an exhibition of artworks in school.
